HIP Launches New Online Privacy Service (Beta)

leave a comment »

Today The Human Information Project released the beta version of our unique online privacy service.  The service consists of 2 main components: an embed tag and a data API.

HIP is a new way of thinking for online privacy and aims to bridge the current disconnect between web surfers, advertisers and publishers.  Designed from the ground up HIP stores only one copy of user data, and that copy is on the users local machines.

The data (known as the HIP Profile) can be accessed by sites and ads when they see the users to provide custom content, and to use as a storage bucket similar to cookies.  Users can then view all of the data stored about them and control what sites and companies can store data in the future.  They can also delete the data entirely and optout if they wish.

HIP is an exciting new service for website owners, advertiser and consumers.  It is also free during the BETA phase so give it a go on your website or blog.  Your users will thank you for it.

Learn more about HIP on our website.
